COURSE FOR TEENS & YOUNG ADULTS

Public Speaking & Storytelling: An Approach to Finding Your Voice

Learn the fundamentals of Public Speaking and how it directly relates to communication through the process of Storytelling. This course teaches performance tools that can be applied throughout students' lives and careers. Designed for teens and young adults, this curriculum is widely accessible and intended for anyone looking to develop and strengthen their public speaking and communication skills, self-confidence and self-expression. We have taken great care to craft a course that upholds the highest standards, and we are excited to share our expertise with you!

At the heart of this course is the combined experience and training of our work as professional actors and media spokespersons. It includes many of the tools and techniques we use to prepare for live & filmed speaking engagements and performance at the highest level of the industry. This course dives into the following areas: getting present, working from a personal and authentic place, self-awareness, story comprehension, releasing physical and vocal tension and the rehearsal process. All of these areas of performance are directly translatable not only to public speaking but to communication more broadly.

By the end of this course, students will know what to do when called upon to speak in public. They will have what we like to call a "tool box" of skills to draw from. And perhaps most importantly, they will have a better understanding of who they are and what they have to say!

Why Public Speaking & Storytelling?

The ability to communicate clearly and confidently is essential for scholastic, professional and personal fulfillment. Studies have shown that students who engage in public speaking training experience an increase of self-confidence. This is no surprise, as we know that the impulse to communicate and tell a story successfully to a group of peers is an essential part of our humanity. In an increasingly digitized and virtual world, our capacities for communication are being strained. Our need for these skills has never been more important.
